This is a little yarn shop guide when holidaying in Ireland. This is definitely a literally little guide as I believe I have yet to discover all the yarn shops located in Ireland. But here are some places that I visited during my short trip. :)
When I was in Ireland, I went to a delightful yarn shop called This is Knit. This lovely yarn shop is located within the Powerscourt Centre, in central Dublin. My mission for the visit was to get Irish yarns. When I told my friend, Melita that I had to go to Ireland for work-related visit, she excitedly told me that I should buy some Irish yarns back. So I did just that. :)
Other yarns shops in Ireland that I visited:
Cork Wools - accessible via the English Market, Cork.
The yarn offering at Blarney Woolen Mills is actually pretty limited. However, if you want Aran jumpers and Irish gifts, this is the place to go to. They also have fantastic range of fashion from Irish brands. Definitely, worth a visit. :)
This is my yarn loot from the trip. I know it is pretty small to even be called a "loot" but keep in mind, I was traveling with my husband. So I had to be pretty reserved...;;^^
In keeping with the yarn and knit theme, I'll leave you with this humorous sign, spotted in This is Knit. I used to work in a wool shop and know that little hands can cause havoc in a yarn shop... but I love how polite and funny this sign is. ^^

That yarn looks so lovely and soft. I was wondering, if you feel so inclined, if you would do a post one day about how to find level-appropriate knitting projects. Also, do you think that this blanket would be too difficult for a beginner? The thing is about beginning knitting is that one wants to be able to make something one will actually use, and many beginning are not very compelling.
ReplyDeleteOn another note, I so enjoyed seeing all the these shops had: so many signs! I wonder if I noticed that just because where I live there are no signs, and if there are any, sometimes they do not match what they are pointing to!

I think that is fantastic idea...:) Though I'm no expert, but I think I can share some tips for beginner knitters in regards to which projects is suitable etc... Re. the pattern link you have, I think that is a fantastic new beginner's project to do. It's using basic moss stitch (or seed stitch), which only uses the knit and purl stitches. Do keep me updated with your progress. I would love to see how it turns out. :)

ReplyDeleteI am almost done that first scarf that I blogged about (it is very long! so it is taking a long time to knit). I don't think I mastered the stitches properly, but I decided since I was knitting consistently to just keep going and finish it :)
As for the banner... great job - not only is it a great pic, but kudos in combining it in such a nifty way with your blog title! I love it when bloggers combine their hobbies to create original content! For now, I wish you a wonderful week! :) - Greta
